On the 105th anniversary of the opening of the TBMM(Turkish Grand National Assembly 23.04.1920), we remember with mercy, respect and gratitude the Commander-in-Chief of our War of Independence, the Founder of our Republic, the GREAT STATESMAN who devoted his life to the welfare and happiness of the nation, Ghazi Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, and his comrades-in-arms. (23.04.2025)
ATATURK AND SISTER GULSUM Mr. Nihat Özbilen says; I heard this memory that I will tell from the Secondary School Principal Mr. Adnan Demirtaş who witnessed the incident. He told it like this. The year is 1926. Marshal Fevzi Çakmak, Fahreddin Altay and other Generals, Members of Parliament and Atatürk honored Kütahya. A feast had been prepared in the Municipality Hall in honor of these esteemed guests. At one point, F. Altay Pasha whispered something into Atatürks ear. Shortly afterwards, he called his aide and the Mayor and made a request. Mayor Kethüdaoğlu Ali Bey left the hall. Not long after, an old woman entered through the door between the Aide and the Mayor. When the woman entered the hall, Atatürk immediately stood up. The people in the hall also stood up. The old woman was frightened and shy in the face of this crowded show, she wanted to turn back, they said something in her ear. Then she walked towards Atatürk with timid steps. Atatürk immediately took the old woman's hand, kissed it with great respect and made her sit next to him. He offered the fruit he took from the table to his old guest with his hand, showing his respect and love. The old woman's eyes were filled with tears, she was listening and watching Atatürk with admiration. They spoke slowly with short words. After a while, the woman asked permission and left the hall. Atatürk addressed the people in the hall loudly and said: - Gülsüm Abla, who was our guest a moment ago, is a national hero. I will explain it: In the days when we were going to achieve the great victory, a cavalry force of ours had raided to prevent the enemy from retreating in the vicinity of Alayunt. An hour or one and a half after this raid, a force close to an enemy regiment that was retreating was fleeing from the same direction. During this escape, they came across Gülsüm Abla working in the field, took her from her field and took her to their Commander. They asked through the interpreter which direction our cavalry forces were going. Gülsüm Abla said she didn't know at first. They tried to force her but when they couldn't get an answer, they called a man and forced her by first removing the nail of her right thumb... and: - Tell me, where did they go. At that time, Gulsum sister shows the fleeing enemy forces the direction of our massed forces. She says that they can be saved if they go there. They pull out their other nails one by one to understand the truth of this. Gulsum sister keeps saying the same thing... They believe that she is explaining it correctly, and they go. Gentlemen, this heroic Turkish mother has completely destroyed the enemy forces by deliberately throwing them into our laps in the direction she showed. It is an honor for me to kiss the hand of this heroic woman...
